Why we need Heroes (RL)

*This is not an ARG/360/Evolutions post*

Back on 25, September, 2006, something fantastic occurred: the world was formally introduced to the phenomenon of Heroes.  Of late, this incredible show and experience has come under fire from critics and others.  Given the state of the world as it is, we need Heroes now more than ever.      We not only need an escape from the everyday but also an inspiration to try and fix the world around us, even if it's only one small step at a time.   Chances are most of us will never fly without a plane, read minds, hide in plain sight, or move an object by our mind's will alone, but all of us have our own unique gifts and talents.  Heroes can inspire us all to use these gifts.  I'll say this much: Heroes is the only reason I actually look forward to Mondays.  I won't tell you it's perfect but even with all its problems it's still the best show on TV.  I don't know what these Neilsen folks are watching but I can tell you I'm not watching what they are.  Why should this small percentage be allowed to jeopardize what I love and make time to watch live and then rewatch via DVR?  Maybe they are among those that have given up and don't have any hope.  If that is the case, I feel sorry for them.  I submit they should suspend their disbelief and tune in to Heroes.  Maybe their outlook will improve as well.  The bottom line is: we need Heroes.

Your writing gave me shivers! To me, it's about inspiring us to be better and to break barriers and come together. In doing this, we need to listen to each other, be open to one another. So much good can happen from this show.

I was chatting with someone, an AndrewK, over on a Heroes fan site and he was saying, with all the negativity and the fact that another writer has been fired, we ought to write to NBC to show support for Heroes. I said that I had a blog over on MyNBC and that maybe I ought to post something on it. He thought it was a good idea. As I wrote this piece, I decided not only to post it there but also to post it here and on MySpace as well.

Thanks. Glad you liked. As I told fangirljen above, I had to do something.

I would be very sad if Heroes were canceled suddenly. Yeah, sometimes the writing can be terrible and the story inconsistent but at its heart, it's really a great show and such a fun fanfiction playground to write in too. The different 'shipper fandoms make me laugh, even the slash and the incest.

I mean, before watching Heroes, I would have never read or 'shipped a cesty pairing. But in heroes, it's fun.

With me it's a lot of fun to watch and then there's the whole interactive experience which just adds to it. Add to that the weekly graphic novels and the new web stuff (i-stories and webisodes) and it's an incredible experience. Sure, I write the occasional fic (see tag = creative extrapolation), but with the fic I'm more interested in getting into the characters heads than anything else and telling an interesting story. I did write a few shippy smut fics but they're strictly non canon and mostly mental floss for me.
